Day 9: Chalice Lake
Yes, that's right Chalice Lake – Helen has run out of puff! Here we are within manageable walking distance of Pine Hut… and we stop for our banked rest day from Dixon’s Kingdom at what we consider the most beautiful of all our campsites of the trip.
So indeed, not a wasted day at all - the weather is great, the scenery superb. Well worth the bank withdrawal!
2 km, 50m climb - that’s a proper rest day - at last!
I am smiling but I have run out of puff. My legs are shouting at every step. I am dreading the steep climb down after Chalice Lake and alongside Grail Falls. But thanks to Geoff’s conservative plan, we don’t need to rush. We still have a spare day up our sleeves.
So just 2km back down we set up on bare rock beside Chalice Lake at what turns out to be the most beautiful campsite of the trip. It is sunny with a breath of wind.
Big rock, little rock with line extensions holds the tent rock (haha) solid even when the wind comes up at night.
For a wash, Geoff goes for a swim and I stand in the shallows.
A refreshed Helen makes full use of our luxury items - a shoe horn and sit pad!
Lovely evening light across our campsite.
Even more beautiful!
